National Autograss

This year we are delighted to have National Autograss at CPOP 2012!

Autograss is a non-contact motorsport that takes place on an oval (approximateley 400 metre) track using a natural soil surface.  Due to the close nature of the racing, thrills and spills are never far away.  There are several differing classes of car, from new near standard minis or small hatchbacks through to space framed single seaters with monster V8 or twin motorbike power!

Up to 8 cars start on a straight line grid and race over short 4-8 lap races.  This results in the major meetings, most of which are staged over 2 days, offering upwards of 200 races.  All classes normally race through qualifying heats and finals.

Phil Cooper is 26yrs old and lives in Warrington, he is an engineer for Unilever.

Phil started to race at 12yrs old and has achieved a total of 13 British Championships in 11 years.  The first at only 15yrs of age.

2011 saw Phil at the forefront of National Autograss Racing.

In his class 9 special Phil won 4 out of the 5 rounds of the British Autograss Series and took the overall title for 2011.  This was his 7th successive title in this class!
In Phil’s other car he was 2nd in the class title race.  He was disappointed with this as he had won it for the previous 2 consecutive years.

Other major achievements throughout the year included winning both classes 8 + 9 at the MAP Open, which boasts possibly the biggest competitive event in UK motorsport with 900+ competitors over one weekend.
Also Phil won the Fastest Man On Grass title for the 4th time.  This is the oldest established motor sport event in our discipline and carries much kudos with it.

At the end of a very successful 2011 season we now have sold one of the extremely successful cars used by Phil over the last 6 seasons  This was Phil’s Toyota based class 9 single seater Autograss special, which he has used extremely successfully for the last 6years, 
With this car Phil won the British Championship in 6 out of the 6 years he owned the car!!! 

In 2006 this car - driven by Phil - became the holder of the World Indoor Speed Record.  That record still stands today.

During his racing career so far Phil has been British Champion 13 times and National Champion twice.
He has won EVERY major championship within Autograss and is one of the most successful drivers ever in Autograss.
