CHOLMONDELEY CASTLE - VISIT ITS BEAUTIFUL GARDENS
The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power takes place in the beautiful grounds of Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumley) Castle, where the Cholmondeley family have resided since Norman times. The Picturesque Gothick castle that now stands on the site was built in the early 19th century.
Justifiably renowned for their romantic beauty, the gardens were laid out between 1801 and 1804 when the first Marquess of Cholmondeley had the castle built.
The gardens have been extensively replanted since the 1960s under the direction of Lady Cholmondeley. Featuring many beautiful specimen trees, herbaceous borders, shrubberies, ponds, lakes and the beautiful Temple Garden, careful planting has made it a garden for all seasons, to be enjoyed all year round with a wealth of plants, shrubs and bulbs.
The grounds also contain a nature reserve and a rare breeds animal centre complete with children corner.
The gardens that surround the castle are open to the public and are available for visitors to enjoy during this weekend. Please note that the castle is a private residence of the Cholmondeley's and not open to the public.
