12.07.08 WHAT DID EWE SAY?

The sheep in their ear muffs

There will be no woolly jumpers from this flock when a noisy motor festival rolls into a nearby estate.

Organisers of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power are so keen to prevent sheep being statled they have given ear muffs to neighbouring farms.

Next month's two-day event will showcase classic sports cars and historic motorbikes.

The pageant will also include speed trials and demonstrations. But keen not to upset the flocks, organisers want to wrap them up in cotton wool - and make sure the engines won't be heard.

Estate Manager and Event Organiser James Hall said "We have an exciting event next month with classic racing cars, helicopters and powerboats. These are extremely noisy machines and we wanted to ensure that the livestock aren't going to be spooked by the loud engines. Protective muffs seem to be the perfect solution."
