The Estate
The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power takes place in the beautiful grounds of Cholmondeley Castle, where the Cholmondeley family have resided since Norman times.
This year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power will host some of Maserati’s most prestigious vehicles as the legendary Italian car manufacturer continues its centenary celebrations, marking 100 years since its first high-class car was produced back in 1914.
The style, speed and beauty of Italian motoring will be on show in the beautiful grounds of Cholmondeley Castle, with three distinctive Maseratis being the pick of the bunch.
The Cheshire motorsport festival is set to welcome Michael O’Shea’s beautiful 1964 Cooper Monaco Maserati as one of its standout entries this year. This unique car was one of the 13 Cooper Monaco models built by Cooper Cars of Surrey in the mid-20th century, and afterwards fitted with a 5000cc Maserati engine by owner Tommy Atkins and his number one driver, Roy Salvadori.
Combining the best of English manufacturing with express Italian speed, Salvadori raced the car five times with podiums at Silverstone and Brands hatch, and won the Whitsun trophy at Goodwood in 1964. Current owner Michael O’Shea will be stepping into his shoes on the sprint track at Cholmondeley to provide a rare spectacle for the dedicated petrolheads in attendance as spectators.
Also displayed will be two models from Maserati’s 100 year old collection; the 1959 Maserati Birdcage Tipo 61 - owned and driven by stalwart British racing driver Alan Minshaw - and the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale; a car that takes its inspiration from the race track offering the perfect balance of performance, luxury and practicality.
Peter Denton, Region Manager Maserati North Europe said: “As we celebrate such a landmark year for Maserati, it’s a real pleasure to be showcasing two of our most celebrated and iconic models against the distinctly British backdrop of the Pageant of Power. The Birdcage Tipo 61 and the GranTurismo MC Stradale typify the wonderful heritage and history of our iconic marque. We look forward to sharing them with Pageant goers this June.”
James Hall, event director at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming some genuinely unique cars to this year’s Pageant. Michael O’Shea’s Cooper-Maserati combines the best of English and Italian motoring, fitting perfectly with our Italian theme at a very English country estate. Maserati are one of the most recognisable and respected automotive brands and we are very much looking forward to celebrating their centenary at CPOP 2014.”
